Ecommerce Platform Choices for Beginners

Ecommerce is big business. Scratch that, calculated to be worth £121bn (around $186bn) back in 2010 and growing to £221bn (around $340bn) by 2016, it’s safe to say that ecommerce is massive!

Ever since my very first online purchase, from the UK to cdnow.com in the USA back in December 1995, I always knew that ecommerce was going to be big business, even if I didn’t fully realise it at the time.

Despite having some exposure to ecommerce, in the late nineties, through my employer, it wasn’t until five years later that I set up my first ecommerce business. It wasn’t particularly easy back then but, in comparison, it is relatively simple for you to do today.

Do you have an ecommerce idea you’re toying with? If so, now is a great time for you to start your ecommerce based business.

Mac mini Media Centre

According to analysts – Gene Munster, of Piper Jaffray, in particular – Apple is soon to launch a revolutionary Apple TV device. Don’t mistake this for another Apple “hobby”; it’s not going to be a set-top box. This is going to be the real-deal, Siri-enabled, iCloud-attached, iOS-controlled, large flat-panel to dominate your living room! Apparently.

But since Gene has been banging on about this for three years or more (Apple has it’s “hobby”, and Gene has his), the Mac mini makes for a pretty good media centre in the meantime. In this tutorial, I’ll examine some of the possibilities and options for making a Mac mini into a media centre.

Keeping Your Cool With Apple Mac Operating Temperatures

Apple’s Mac range of computers are, literally, the hot technology of the day with shipments of some 13.5 million portable MacBooks Pro and 4.65 million Mac minis and iMacs in the most recent quarter. Compare this with the longest decline in PC sales history and you can see what I mean.

But Mac’s are physically hot, too, sometimes. If this is something about which you are be concerned then this tutorial will explain a little more about the causes, the problems and the solutions to your hot Apple.

Using an iMac as a Monitor in Target Display Mode

One of the things about the iMac, in fact any Apple-made display, is it’s extremely high quality image and colour-depth. It’s not that you’ll necessarily notice it immediately, but if you ever move back to a PC monitor, you’ll become acutely aware of the difference in quality.

Given that the iMac has a superb display, it could be useful to share that with another Mac, on occasion. In this tutorial I will explain a little known feature, named Target Display Mode, and show you how to use it.

You can be close to tearing your hair out wondering why webpages are slow to load. If this is your experience then this tutorial may have the answer.

How to Upgrade the Hard Disc Drive in Your Mac mini

In my last tutorial I showed you how to upgrade the RAM in your Mac mini. Whilst you have the lid off, or now that you know how to get into the machine, you might like to make another modification that will help extend the viable functional life of your Mac mini.

As shown previously, despite being – to all intents and purposes – sealed boxes, it is possible to upgrade these devices in order to further their useful lifespan. With a Core 2 Duo processor, upgrading the 80 or 120GB hard drive to, perhaps, a 500GB HDD brings the machine up to a more modern specification capable of housing large iTunes and iPhoto libraries.

In this tutorial, I’ll be showing you how to upgrade the hard disc drive (HDD) in your Mac mini. For the purposes of the tutorial, I’ll be using a Mac mini Core 2 Duo machine, model A1283.

How to Upgrade the Memory in a Mac mini

The Mac mini is a much underrated member of of the Mac line-up of computers, in my opinion. This diminutive little box is versatile Mac that can be used either as one’s main computer or as a media centre, or even a computer that is easily portable on those occasions when you might need it elsewhere.

Despite being – to all intents and purposes – sealed boxes, it is possible to upgrade these devices in order to further their useful lifespan. With a Core 2 Duo processor, upgrading the standard 512MB or 1GB RAM module to, perhaps, 4GB or 8GB RAM brings the machine up to a spec capable of running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

In this tutorial, I’ll be showing you how to upgrade the memory (RAM) in your Mac mini. For the purposes of the tutorial, I’ll be using a Mac mini Core 2 Duo machine, model A1283.
