How to Change the Web Browser Default Search Engine in OS X

Apple’s Mac computers ship with the Safari web browser which, by default, uses Google for its search. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to change the default search engine.

For the purpose of this tutorial, I am using:

  • OS X 10.11.2 El Capitan
  • Safari 9.0.2
  • Chrome 47.0.2526.111 (64-bit)

If you are using an earlier version of OS X, not all search engine options will be available to you in Safari.

How to Take Screenshots on a 2015 Apple TV 4

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how it is possible to take screenshots of an Apple TV 4 by using a Mac, the Xcode App—downloadable from the Mac App Store—and a USB-A to USB-C cable.

With previous incarnations of Apple’s hobby device, it has not been possible to take screenshots. Well, not easily. And not all the time. The exception was the first incarnation of the hockey puck-sized black box, the Apple TV 2.

With some jailbreaking software, some command-line trickery and a little knowhow, it was possible to take screenshots. This was not possible on the Apple TV 3 since it was never successfully jailbroken.

With the recent release, on Friday 30th October 2015, of Apple’s latest TV device it is now possible to take screenshots relatively easily.

Preparing a Mac for Upgrade to OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Apple announced El Capitan the latest version of it’s OS X operating system, numbered 10.11, on the 9th September 2015, at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California in the United States.

This is the third in a departure from the previous naming of operating systems after big cats. Following on from OS X 10.9 Mavericks and 10.10 Yosemite, El Capitan continues with the new naming convention of locations in California.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you what you will need to do to ensure that a Mac is ready for upgrade, from OS X 10.10 Yosemite, or earlier, to OS X 10.11 El Capitan following its release on 30th September 2015.

How to Create a Windows 10 USB Installer Drive on a Mac

How to Get the Most From an Old iPhone
