Preparing a Mac for OS X 10.10 Yosemite

Apple announced the latest version of it’s OS X operating system, on the 2nd June 2014, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco.

The second in a departure from the previous naming system of big cats, the next iteration of OS X, being 10.10, will start a new naming convention taken from places in California. OS X 10.10 will be known as Yosemite, named after the Yosemite National Park in California.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you what you will need to do to ensure that a Mac is ready for upgrade, from OS X 10.9 Mavericks, or earlier, to OS X 10.10 Yosemite when it is released later this year.

How to Order Photographic Prints From iPhoto

Digital technology allows the taking of countless photographs for little or no cost; a stark contrast to the expensive, film-based photography of just a couple of decades ago. Yet photos are printed less often than in the past. It’s still possible and, in this tutorial, I’ll show you how to have chosen photos printed professionally and delivered to your door.

Photography, for me, began with a secondhand Zenit camera and a roll of stuff called film that had to be developed before I could see the image I’d just framed. Fast-forward to recent history and now photographs are captured digitally and viewed instantaneously.

Perhaps it’s the ease with which I can rattle off hundreds, if not thousands, of photos that means I rarely look at them after I’ve taken them. In this tutorial I will show you how to produce a custom book highlighting the best of your photography.

The Raspberry Pi B+ Explored and Explained

Announced on 14th July 2014, the Raspberry Pi B+ is a revision to the hugely popular model B. Available at the same price as its predecessor, the B+ is the same but different. This tutorial will explain the differences and what’s new with the model B+.

Originally launched in February 2012—and intended as an educational learning tool—the low-cost, bare-bones Raspberry Pi captured the imagination of kids (and big kids) around the world.
